  • The Island is formed from sedimentary bed rock of soft, red sandstone which produces the rich, red soil.
  • Gently rolling hills, white sandy beaches and red cliffs contribute to the natural pastoral beauty of PEI.

  • The majority of the population is of British ancestry and approximately 12% of the population speaks French.
  • There are three counties Kings, Queens and Prince. The two largest cities in the province include Charlottetown, the capital city, located in Queens County, and Summerside, an hour’s drive away in Prince County. Other centres include Alberton, Cornwall, Georgetown, Kensington, Montague, Souris and Stratford.
  • PEI is in the Atlantic Time Zone, an hour earlier than some of the major centres in the US and Canada such as Toronto, Montreal, and Boston.
