Innovative thinking and technologically advanced infrastructure intertwine to foster the growth of
an evolving information technology industry on Prince Edward Island.
Examples of facilities which accommodate this infrastructure are:
The Atlantic Technology Centre (ATC)
The ATC in Charlottetown is the result of a government and private industry plan to enhance the region's IT industry. Officially opened in 2001, the ATC is home to some of the most successful and promising IT and new media companies. The five-story, 130,000 square foot technologically-advanced facility is an ideal setting for growing IT and media companies to expand, foster new partnerships, and thrive in an atmosphere that promotes and sustains business success. In addition to prime corporate office space, the ATC offers services such as multimedia training labs, digital audio and picture editing suites, conference suite with webcasting, presentation rooms, private tenant lounge and an internet café.
The PEI Food Technology Centre (FTC)
The FTC was established in1987 to provide technical support to the food processing industry on Prince Edward Island. Since then, the FTC has strategically developed its infrastructure and has attained recognition as a quality technology provider to local, regional, national and international clients. The FTC continues to improve its services to the food processing industry in areas of food product and process development and laboratory services, and now has expertise and infrastructure in place for bioresource upgrading. The 20,000 square foot facility is located within a scientific community that includes the University of Prince Edward Island, NRC Institute of Nutrisciences and Health, Canadian Food Inspection Agency Laboratory (Centre for Animal and Plant Health), and Agriculture and AgriFood Canada Crops and Livestock Research Station.
